Krion Conquest came out in 1990 for the NES, developed and published by Vic Tokai. It was part of that wave of action games that tried to capture the feel of titles like Mega Man, with a clear structure and a focus on precise movement and shooting.

You control a sorceress named Francesca, fighting to reclaim Earth from the alien Krions. Your main goal is to progress through five distinct worlds, each culminating in a boss fight, to eventually reach the Krion space station. The game gives you six different magic weapons to find and switch between, each with its own attack pattern and utility against certain enemies. A key mechanic is the charged shot; holding down the fire button builds power, releasing a blast up to four times stronger than your standard attack. The level design is screen by screen, locking you in until all enemies are cleared, which makes for a methodical and often difficult pace. Playing it feels like a constant test of your timing and your ability to manage the right weapon for the right situation.
