Konamic Golf for the Game Boy is one of those early golf sims that somehow nails the vibe despite the tiny screen. You get a simple top-down view of the course, pick your club, adjust your swing power, and pray the wind doesn’t wreck your shot. The pixelated greens are surprisingly readable, and there’s something satisfying about chipping in from the rough with that little *plink* sound effect.
It’s not as flashy as later golf games, but the controls are tight—hold the button to power up, release to swing, and hope you didn’t overshoot. The Japanese version has a few quirks, like kanji menus, but you’ll figure it out after a hole or two. Honestly, it’s weirdly addictive once you get into the rhythm.
If you’re into retro sports games, this one’s a solid time-waster between bus rides or meetings. Just don’t blame me when you rage-quit after hitting the water hazard three times in a row.
