About Konami Basketball
Konami Basketball came out for the original Game Boy in 1991, published by Konami. It was one of many sports titles trying to find a place on the handheld, a straightforward attempt to bring hoops to a small screen. You control one of eight international teams, each with five players on the court, in a standard five-on-five game.
You move your selected player with the D-pad, passing with the A button and shooting or stealing with the B button. The main goal is to outscore the computer opponent before the clock runs out. Key mechanics include a turbo button for a temporary speed burst and the ability to perform a special dunk or a three-point shot when your meter is charged. The game moves at a quick pace, and the computer defense can be surprisingly aggressive, making it difficult to get an open look. It feels like a fast, scrappy game of pickup basketball translated into pixels.
