Klax On GB came out for the Game Boy in 1990, developed by Atari Games. It was part of that wave of arcade puzzle games making the jump to handhelds, a time when fitting a quarter-munching experience into a pocket-sized screen was its own kind of magic. You got a complete, focused game without the fuss of a big adventure, something you could pick up for a few minutes between other things.

You control a paddle at the bottom of the screen, catching colored tiles as they roll down a ramp. Your goal is to catch these tiles and then drop them into a grid to form lines of three or more of the same color, called Klaxes. The main mechanics involve planning your moves several steps ahead; you can choose to catch a tile or let it fall, and you must also flip the tiles on your paddle to change their order before placing them. The game progresses screen by screen, with each level introducing new patterns and faster tile speeds, steadily increasing the pressure. It feels like a constant, pleasant tension, a race to organize the chaos before the ramp overflows.
