About Klax (japan)
Klax for the Game Boy came out in 1990, published by Atari Games. It was part of that wave of simple, portable puzzle games that fit perfectly on the small screen. You could find it alongside other titles that focused on quick, repeatable sessions rather than long adventures.
You control a paddle at the bottom of the screen, catching colored tiles as they slide down a ramp. The goal is to arrange these tiles into rows, columns, or diagonals of three or more matching colors to clear them. The main mechanics involve catching the tiles and then strategically dropping them into one of five lanes on your grid. You have to think a few steps ahead because the tiles keep coming, and the game gets faster. It starts calmly but quickly demands your full attention as the speed increases and the patterns become more complex. The feeling is one of building a precarious structure that could fall apart at any moment if you misplace a single tile.
