Kiteretsu Zyuraki came out for the Game Boy in 1990, developed by TOSE and published by Bandai. You control a young inventor named Kiteretsu, exploring the world from a side view. You move screen by screen, using a variety of inventions you build, like a spring to jump higher or a propeller to cross gaps. Combat is simple; you throw wrenches or use your tools to fend off enemies. The pacing is deliberate, with some backtracking as new tools open up previous paths. The difficulty comes from precise platforming and figuring out where to use each invention. Playing it feels like tinkering your way through a compact, mechanical world.
