Kiteretsu Daihyakka: Bouken Ooedo Juraki came out for the Game Boy in 1993, developed by Epoch. It was one of those many licensed titles that filled the portable library back then, based on a Japanese anime series that never made it overseas. You play as Kiteretsu, a young inventor boy, and the game drops you into a side scrolling adventure set in a fantastical version of Edo-period Japan.

You control Kiteretsu through a series of platforming stages, running and jumping across rooftops and through forests. Your main goal is to progress through each level, defeating the enemies you meet along the way. Your primary tool is a bow and arrow, which you aim and fire at foes; you also collect various inventor gadgets that give you temporary abilities, like a spring for higher jumps. The game is structured level by level, with a boss waiting at the end of each one. The pacing is straightforward, though some jumps require precise timing, and the enemy placement can create sudden difficulty spikes. It feels like a compact, challenging quest from the early days of handheld gaming.
