Kitarou Game

Kitarou on Game Boy is this weird little platformer where you play as the one-eyed ghost kid from the manga, bouncing around haunted forests and creepy villages. The first thing you notice is how the pixel art nails that classic Mizuki style—all these yokai look like they stepped right out of the pages, from the stretchy-necked Rokurokubi to floating lantern ghosts.
Gameplay’s simple but satisfying—you jump on enemies, toss your detached hair-club-thing (yeah, that’s a weapon), and occasionally team up with Kitarou’s undead pals for special moves. Some levels throw curveballs, like a graveyard where you’re dodging hands bursting from the ground. It’s got that old-school jank where you’ll miss a jump and mutter “oh come ON” at your Game Boy, but in a way that makes you wanna try again immediately.
If you grew up with the manga or just love retro platformers with personality, this one’s a mood. The music’s all eerie chiptune whistles that somehow make graveyards feel weirdly cozy. Just don’t play it alone at night unless you want to jump at shadows.
