Kinnikuman: The Dream Match is one of those weird, Japan-only Game Boy gems that never made it overseas—which is a shame because it’s a surprisingly solid little fighter. You pick from a roster of muscly, spandex-clad wrestlers (including the main man Kinnikuman himself) and duke it out in super-deformed, chibi-style matches. The controls are simple—basic punches, kicks, and throws—but the sprites have this goofy charm, and the special moves are over-the-top in the best way.
It’s not as deep as something like Street Fighter, but for a portable brawler in the early ‘90s, it’s way more fun than it has any right to be. Just don’t expect an English patch—this one’s pure Japanese nostalgia fuel.
