About Kinnikuman - The Dream Match (japan)
Kinnikuman: The Dream Match came out for the Game Boy in 1992, developed by Yutaka. It was one of many Japanese-exclusive titles that never made it overseas, a common situation for licensed games on the platform at the time.
You control one of several muscle-bound wrestlers from the Kinnikuman universe, facing off against opponents in one-on-one fights. The main goal is to win matches and progress through a tournament bracket. The combat uses a simple system of punches and kicks, but the signature mechanics are the special moves, which you execute with specific button combinations, and the ability to grapple and throw your opponent. The pacing is quick, and the difficulty can be sharp, especially when the computer reads your inputs. It feels like a stripped-down, portable version of the arcade wrestling games of that period.
