Kininkou Maroku Oni Game

Kininkou Maroku Oni is one of those weird little Game Boy RPGs that feels like stumbling into a half-forgotten folktale. You start off in this eerie village where everyone’s whispering about demons, and before long, you’re wandering through forests full of yokai—some helpful, some very much not. The pixel art’s got that grainy, moody Game Boy look, which actually works in its favor when you’re creeping through torch-lit caves or fighting off umbrella monsters.
Combat’s simple but punishing if you rush in—turns out, throwing salt at ghosts works better than swinging your sword wildly. There’s something oddly satisfying about the way the game drip-feeds you bits of lore through NPCs who all sound like they’re hiding something. Not gonna lie, the translation’s a bit rough in spots, but it kinda adds to the charm? Like you’re piecing together a cursed scroll someone left out in the rain.
If you’ve got a soft spot for obscure 90s RPGs with a supernatural twist, this one’s worth digging up.
