Kingyo Chuuihou! 2 is one of those weird little Game Boy gems that somehow makes taking care of digital goldfish weirdly compelling. You start off with a tiny tank and a couple of fish—nothing fancy—but before long you're scrubbing algae, adjusting water temps, and trying not to freak out when they start looking sick. The sprites are chunky and adorable, and there's something oddly satisfying about nailing the perfect feeding routine.
It's not all smooth sailing, though. Mess up the water balance and your fish get grumpy fast. I learned that the hard way when half my tank turned belly-up after I got lazy with cleaning. The game doesn't hold your hand, which makes finally keeping a thriving tank feel like an actual achievement. If you ever played those old Tamagotchi pets but wished they had more... fish, this is your jam.
Honestly, it shouldn't work as well as it does, but here we are—twenty years later and I'm still weirdly invested in these pixelated goldfish.
