Kingyo Chuuihou! - Wapiko no Wakuwaku Stamp Rally! is one of those weird, charming little Game Boy games that feels like it fell out of a 90s Japanese toy store. You play as Wapiko, this tiny girl with a fishing rod, running around collecting stamps—except everything’s slightly surreal, like the way fish just float in midair or how some NPCs look like they’re made of paper cutouts.
The controls are simple (d-pad and two buttons), but half the fun is figuring out what the heck you’re supposed to do next since the whole thing’s in Japanese. I spent my first 10 minutes just poking at random objects until a stamp magically appeared. There’s something oddly satisfying about the chunky pixel art and the way Wapiko’s pigtails bounce when she jumps.
It’s not deep, but it’s got that weird, early-Game-Boy vibe where everything feels like a secret only you discovered. If you’re into obscure Japanese curiosities, this one’s a neat little time capsule.
