About King's Quest V
King's Quest V came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1992, a Sierra On-Line game that brought their style of adventure to the console. It was a time when you saw a lot of these point and click style games making the jump from computers, and this was one of the attempts to fit that experience onto a controller.
You control King Graham, whose family is kidnapped by an evil wizard, and your main goal is to get them back. The game plays out screen by screen; you explore forests, towns, and castles, typing in text commands on the NES version to interact with the world. You collect a lot of items, solve environmental puzzles, and have to be careful because some actions can leave you permanently stuck. The pacing is slow and deliberate, demanding you pay close attention to every detail and conversation. Playing it feels like carefully working through a long and sometimes unforgiving storybook.
