About King Kong 2 - Ikari No Megaton Punch (japan)
King Kong 2: Ikari no Megaton Punch came out in 1986 for the Nintendo Entertainment System, though it was a Japan only release on the Famicom. Konami developed and published the game, which loosely draws from the film King Kong Lives. It fits right into that mid 80s era of side scrolling platformers on the NES, where developers were experimenting with larger character sprites and cinematic themes.
You control a scientist named Hiro, who moves through levels screen by screen. Your main goal is to rescue your girlfriend from a giant gorilla. The signature mechanics are your punch, which you charge up to deliver a powerful megaton blow, and a jetpack that lets you hover for short bursts. You explore jungles, caves, and enemy bases, fighting soldiers and creatures while avoiding environmental hazards. The pacing is deliberate, and the difficulty can be unforgiving, especially when timing your charged attacks. Playing it feels like a constant struggle to master your limited tools against overwhelming odds.
