Killer Instinct Gold on N64 is that rare fighting game where button-mashing actually gets you somewhere—but if you take the time to learn the combos, it feels like unlocking cheat codes. The roster’s got everything from a werewolf to a cyborg, and each one has these ridiculous, over-the-top finishers that never get old (Jago’s sword flurry still gives me chills).
What surprised me was how good it looks for an N64 game—the characters are chunky but detailed, and the stages have this grimy arcade vibe. Playing against a friend is where it really shines, though. You’ll both swear you’ve figured out the perfect combo… until someone lands an Ultra and the entire room erupts. Just don’t blame me when you start hearing “C-C-C-COMBO BREAKER” in your sleep.
