About Kid Icarus
Kid Icarus on the Game Boy came out in 1991, developed by Nintendo R&D1. It was part of that wave of portable games trying to bring a full console style adventure into your hands. You got a substantial quest in a tiny cartridge, which felt like a real accomplishment back then, even with the limitations of the monochrome screen.
You control Pit, a young angel tasked with rescuing Palutena. Your main goal is to travel through the Overworld and a series of fortresses, fighting monsters with your bow. The game is structured screen by screen; you climb vertical chambers, jump across platforms, and enter side scrolling fortress dungeons. You collect hearts from defeated enemies to spend in shops for better arrows and temporary power ups. The pacing is deliberate, and the difficulty is notable, demanding careful jumps and precise shots. It feels like a tense, methodical climb where every new screen is a small victory.
