Keitai Keiba 8 Special Game

Okay, so Keitai Keiba 8 Special is one of those weirdly specific Game Boy gems—basically horse racing, but with that crunchy late-90s handheld charm. You pick your horse, throw down some bets (virtual yen, thankfully), and watch these little pixel ponies go at it. The races are quick, the controls are dead simple, and there’s something weirdly satisfying about seeing your underdog pick suddenly surge ahead at the last second.
It’s not deep—you’re mostly just mashing A and hoping—but the tension when your horse rounds the final turn is legit. Also, the jockeys have these tiny, exaggerated animations that crack me up every time. If you’ve ever wanted to yell at a 2-inch-tall racehorse, this’ll do it.
Definitely more fun with a friend betting against you, though. Just don’t blame me when you get way too invested in Horse #3’s tragic backstory.
