About Karnov (japan)
Karnov came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1987, developed and published by Data East. It was part of that wave of early NES action games, where the focus was on straightforward, challenging platforming rather than complex stories.
You control Karnov, a former circus fire-breather, navigating side-scrolling stages. Your main goal is to find a treasure map by defeating enemies and collecting keys to open chests. You attack by shooting fireballs, which you can aim diagonally, and you also find special items like bombs and boomerangs. The game progresses screen by screen, with some vertical climbing and swimming sections. It moves at a deliberate pace, and the difficulty is unforgiving; enemies respawn quickly and platforming requires precision. Playing it feels like a constant, careful push through a world that doesn't give you many breaks.
