Karamuchou no Daijiken is one of those weird little Game Boy gems that never left Japan—which is a shame, because it’s got this quirky charm I can’t quite explain. You play as a detective (or maybe a journalist? The translation’s rough) stumbling into bizarre small-town mysteries, and the whole thing feels like a mix between a point-and-click adventure and a visual novel.
The pixel art’s surprisingly expressive, especially for a Game Boy title, and the cases start off simple (like finding a lost cat) before spiraling into full-blown conspiracies. Some puzzles are a bit cryptic if you don’t read Japanese, but there’s something oddly satisfying about poking around until things click. Definitely one for fans of offbeat retro mysteries.
