Kaiketsu Yanchamaru 3 - Taiketsu! Zouringen (japan) Game
📅 1991 ✍️ Namco

Kaiketsu Yanchamaru 3 is one of those NES side-scrollers that feels simple at first—until you realize how weirdly fun the movement is. You play as this kid with a bo staff, and instead of just whacking enemies, you can use it to bounce off walls like some kind of tiny, acrobatic ninja. The pogo-stick move is the real star, though—jump, slam the staff down, and suddenly you're vaulting straight up like a spring-loaded maniac.
It's got that classic NES challenge where you'll probably faceplant into spikes a few times before getting the timing right, but once you do, zipping around levels feels surprisingly smooth. The staff mechanics make it stand out from the usual run-and-jump stuff. Just don't be surprised if you spend half your time bouncing on enemies' heads for no reason other than it's stupidly satisfying.
