Juvei Quest is one of those weird, obscure NES RPGs that never made it out of Japan—which is a shame, because it’s got this odd charm to it. You start off in a typical fantasy village, but the monster designs are just... bizarre. Like, one minute you're fighting what looks like a sentient cabbage, the next it's some kind of armored snail.

The combat’s turn-based but faster than Dragon Quest, and there’s this weird little gambling mini-game between battles that either leaves you rich or broke in seconds. The translation patches floating around are rough, so half the time you’re guessing what an item does—accidentally turning your hero into a frog mid-boss fight is always a risk.

It’s janky, unpredictable, and definitely not for everyone, but if you’re into digging up forgotten NES oddities, this one’s a trip. Just save often unless you enjoy losing progress to cryptic moon logic puzzles.
