About Jungle Book, The
I remember getting Jungle Book for the NES in 1994. It was developed by Eurocom and published by Virgin Interactive. This was late in the system's life, so it felt like a polished title from that final wave of 8-bit games, based on the Disney film but doing its own thing.
You control Mowgli through side-scrolling jungle levels. Your goal is to reunite with your human village while avoiding the tiger Shere Khan. You throw an endless supply of fruit as your main attack, which feels good when you hit a parrot or a monkey. The levels are broken into distinct screens you clear of enemies before moving on, and you collect red gems for extra lives. Some stages let you ride on Baloo's back, which changes the pace and gives you a stronger charge attack. The game is quite difficult, with tricky platforming and enemies that respawn quickly. Playing it feels like a constant, focused scramble through a vibrant and dangerous world.
