About Judge Dredd (japan)
Judge Dredd on the Game Boy is a 1995 release from Acclaim, based on the film and the long running 2000 AD comic. It arrived during a period when licensed action games were common on the handheld, often attempting to translate big screen spectacle into the small, monochrome format. You step into the armored boots of Judge Dredd himself, the ultimate lawman in the dystopian Mega City One.
You control Dredd from a side view, moving through levels screen by screen to hunt down perps and restore order. Your main objective is to progress through the city's chaotic sectors, using your standard Lawgiver pistol to shoot enemies on sight. The game incorporates some light platforming, requiring you to jump across gaps and onto elevators. You also collect evidence and health pickups scattered throughout the stages. The pacing is deliberate, and the difficulty can be unforgiving, demanding precise jumps and quick shooting. Navigating the oppressive, blocky architecture of the city while dishing out justice feels like a gritty, straightforward patrol.
