About Joy Mech Fight
Joy Mech Fight came out for the NES in 1993, developed by Nintendo's own R&D1 team. It was a late release for the system, a time when fighting games were starting to get popular on home consoles. It felt like Nintendo's direct answer to that trend, built for their aging 8-bit hardware.
You control a cast of unlockable robots, starting with just Sukapon, in one-on-one battles. The main goal is to knock out all the enemy robots in each stage to progress. Its signature mechanics include a limb detachment system, where you can launch your own arms and legs as projectiles, and a character unlocking feature where you recruit defeated opponents to your team. The pacing is fast, and the difficulty can be sharp, especially when the AI starts using special moves more frequently. It feels like a clever, scrappy brawler that pushes the NES to its limits.
