About Jeopardy
I picked up Jeopardy on the Game Boy back in 1991, a GameTek release that brought the TV quiz show to the small screen. It was one of those portable adaptations that tried to capture the feeling of watching at home, fitting right in with the era's push to turn popular media into handheld games. The greenish monochrome display and tinny audio were the standard for the hardware, and this game didn't try to push beyond those limits.
You play as a contestant competing against two computer opponents. The main goal is to outscore them by the end of the final round. You navigate through the categories on the board, selecting clues by their dollar value. The core mechanics involve reading the clue, buzzing in by pressing the button faster than your rivals, and then inputting your answer in the form of a question. The pacing is quick, and the difficulty can spike depending on the categories you get; some rounds feel manageable, while others are filled with obscure trivia that can drain your cash. It feels like a genuine test of knowledge and reflexes, a solitary version of the frantic television experience.
