Janshirou Ii - Sekai Saikyou No Janshi (japan) Game

Janshirou II is one of those weird little Game Boy gems you stumble into—it's a mahjong game, but with this over-the-top "world's strongest player" gimmick. You start off facing these oddly intense opponents who trash-talk you in broken English (or well, Japanese, but you get the vibe). The sprites are tiny but full of personality, like this one guy who smugly fans himself while waiting for you to make a move.
At first, the rules might throw you if you're not familiar with Japanese mahjong, but the game actually does a decent job easing you in. I remember just button-mashing through the first few matches until the patterns started clicking. And when you finally pull off a big win, the screen flashes like you just knocked out Mike Tyson in Punch-Out. It's ridiculous in the best way.
Definitely more fun than it has any right to be for a handheld tile game from the '90s.
