Jangou Simulation Mahjong Do 64 is one of those N64 deep cuts you don’t hear about much, but if you’re into mahjong, it’s surprisingly solid. The tiles have that satisfying clack when you place them, and the AI actually puts up a decent fight—none of that mindless discarding you see in weaker ports.
First thing you’ll notice? The interface is clean, no clutter, just straight to the game. It’s all in Japanese, sure, but if you know your riichi from your pon, you’ll be fine. The music’s low-key, just some traditional shamisen plucking in the background, which honestly fits the vibe better than some overdone orchestral track would.
Not gonna lie, the N64 controller feels a little weird for mahjong at first, but you get used to it. And once you do, there’s something weirdly satisfying about slamming down a winning hand with that chunky Z-trigger. If you’ve got the patience for imported mahjong sims, this one’s a hidden gem.
