I first played Isolated Warrior on the NES back in 1991. It was developed by KID, and it came out during that period when a lot of games were trying to mix shooting with adventure elements. You control a lone hero named Max on a mission to stop an alien invasion. The game is set in a post apocalyptic world, and you move through areas one screen at a time, which was a common structure for action games on the system.

You guide Max from an overhead perspective, shooting enemies with a gun that can be powered up. Your main goal is to fight through five different stages, each ending with a boss. A key mechanic is collecting power ups that change your weapon's shot type, like a spread gun or laser. You also have a limited supply of bombs for clearing the screen. The pacing is fast, and the difficulty is quite high, demanding quick reflexes to dodge enemy patterns. Playing it feels like a constant, tense battle for survival.
