Remember button-mashing your way through Olympic events on the N64? International Track & Field Summer Games is basically that childhood memory in cartridge form. You’ll flail at sprints, mistime your long jumps, and absolutely whiff javelin throws at first—until you get the rhythm down. The events are simple but punishing if your timing’s off, which makes nailing a perfect pole vault stupidly satisfying.
Where this really shines is couch multiplayer. Four players, one controller, and a lot of frantic thumb-spinning later, someone’s always yelling about unfair button assignments. The graphics haven’t aged gracefully (those blocky athletes look like they’re made of LEGO), but the chaos holds up. Just don’t expect realism—this is arcade-style insanity where you can somehow long-jump 30 feet.
Still weirdly fun if you’ve got friends who don’t mind sore thumbs.
