International Superstar Soccer '98 on N64 was one of those games that made you feel like you were actually playing soccer, not just mashing buttons. The controls were smooth—none of that clunky, delayed movement—and the players had weight to them, so dribbling and passing felt satisfyingly realistic.
You’ve got all the big international teams here, and the stadiums actually look decent for an N64 game. The crowd noise ramps up when you’re on a breakaway, and the commentary (while repetitive after a while) adds to the vibe. The multiplayer is where it really shines, though—nothing like beating your friend with a last-minute goal from Italy’s Baggio.
It’s not perfect—some of the AI can be predictable—but for its time, it was one of the best soccer games around. Still holds up if you’re into retro sports titles.
