Initial D Gaiden on the Game Boy is one of those weird little racing spin-offs that somehow captures the vibe of the anime without being a straight-up racing sim. You get these chunky pixel cars drifting around mountain passes, and yeah, it’s not exactly smooth—but there’s something oddly satisfying about nailing a hairpin turn with the tiny Takumi sprite.

It’s Japan-only, so unless you’re fluent in moon runes, expect some menu guesswork. Still, the racing itself is simple enough: pick your car (obviously the AE86), rev through the gears, and try not to yeet yourself off Akina’s guardrails. The music’s got that classic Game Boy beep-boap energy, though don’t expect Eurobeat.

Definitely more of a novelty for Initial D fans than a must-play, but it’s a fun little time capsule if you’re into retro oddities.
