Ikari Warriors 3 came out for the NES in 1990, developed and published by SNK. It was part of that wave of late-era NES games trying to push the hardware with more complex action and visuals. You played as one of two commandos, Ralf or Clark, and your goal was to fight your way upward through enemy territory to reach the village of Ikari. Enemy soldiers and vehicles filled the screen, and you had to shoot your way through them while dodging their fire.

You control your commando from an overhead perspective, moving screen by screen and using a standard rifle that you could upgrade by collecting power-ups dropped by certain enemies. One of the key mechanics was the ability to jump into enemy tanks and use them yourself; the tank made you immune to small arms fire, but it had limited fuel and would explode if it took too much damage, forcing you to bail out quickly. The pacing was relentless, with enemies swarming from all directions, and the difficulty was quite steep even by NES standards. It felt like a tense, chaotic scramble where every bit of progress was hard won.
