Ikari Warriors 1 on NES is one of those classic run-and-gun games where you blast through jungles, dodging bullets and tossing grenades like they're candy. At first glance, it feels like a Rambo simulator—until you realize you can actually punch enemies in the face when they get too close. Weirdly satisfying, honestly.
Heidern (yep, that Heidern from King of Fighters) leads the charge, and the sprites actually look like grown-ups this time instead of the chibi versions from earlier games. Your mission? Rescue the President’s daughter, take down Crime Ghost (who sounds like a rejected Bond villain), and basically turn the whole enemy base into Swiss cheese. Just watch out for those tanks—they show up out of nowhere.
It’s chaotic, a little janky by today’s standards, but there’s something about the sheer chaos of it that still hooks me. That grenade throw arc still feels weirdly perfect.
