About Ikari (japan)
Ikari came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1986, published by SNK. It was part of that wave of arcade style shooters that felt right at home on the NES, where you expected straightforward action and a stiff challenge. You controlled one of two commandos, Ralf or Clark, fighting your way through a war-torn landscape. The main goal was to rescue a captured ally by pushing forward through enemy territory, screen by screen.
You moved your soldier in eight directions, firing a machine gun at waves of infantry and vehicles. The signature mechanics were the rotary joystick controls adapted for the NES D-pad, letting you aim your shots independently from your movement, and the ability to commandeer enemy tanks and helicopters you found on the battlefield. The pacing was relentless, with enemies spawning constantly from all sides, and the difficulty was punishing if you weren't careful with your limited lives and continues. It felt like a tense, chaotic battle where every inch of progress was earned.
