Hyaku No Sekai No Monogatari - The Tales On A Watery Wilderness (japan) Game

Hyaku no Sekai no Monogatari is one of those obscure NES JRPGs that never left Japan—which is a shame, because it’s got this weird, dreamy vibe I haven’t seen in many 8-bit games. You start washed up on a shore with no memory, and the first thing you do is wander through these misty, waterlogged landscapes talking to villagers who all sound like they’re hiding something. The combat’s pretty standard turn-based stuff, but the atmosphere? Super moody for an NES game.
It’s got that classic "lost in translation" charm too—some of the dialogue feels like it went through three layers of interpretation, which just adds to the mystery. If you’re into retro RPGs with a side of existential weirdness, this one’s worth digging up. Just don’t expect a clear explanation for why that one NPC keeps offering you salted fish.
