About Hyakkiyakou (japan)
Hyakkiyakou was a Japan-only release for the Nintendo Entertainment System, published by Use Corporation. It came out during a time when the Famicom library was full of experimental titles, and this one drew directly from the folklore of the Night Parade of One Hundred Demons, a kind of spectral festival. You won't find an official English version, so it remains a curious piece of that era's regional output.
You control a lone hero tasked with cleansing a town overrun by yokai. Your main goal is to explore the haunted streets and buildings screen by screen, confronting ghosts and monsters with a sword. A key mechanic involves using special talismans to reveal hidden spirits or seal them away; managing these limited items is crucial. The game is methodical and quite difficult, demanding careful movement to avoid ambushes in the dark.
