Okay, so Hunchback of Notre Dame on Game Boy is one of those licensed games that actually tries to do something interesting. You play as Quasimodo, swinging around Notre Dame’s towers and dodging guards—which, yeah, sounds cooler than it has any right to be. The controls take a second to get used to (that jump arc is weird), but once you figure it out, there’s something satisfying about clambering up stone gargoyles and dropping flower pots on soldiers’ heads.
It’s got that classic 90s platformer vibe—pixelated Paris looks surprisingly moody for a Game Boy screen, and the music nails the gothic feel. Some of the later levels get brutal with the timing, though. I may or may not have rage-quit at the spinning spike columns. Still, if you’re into obscure retro stuff, it’s a neat little time capsule with more charm than most movie tie-ins.
