About Hugo 2
I first played Hugo 2 on my Game Boy in the mid 1990s, a time when portable adventures were often simple and direct. It was published by ITE Media in 1995, and it felt like a natural part of that era's handheld library, a straightforward quest you could take anywhere. The game didn't try to overwhelm you with complexity; it was just you and a clear, if sometimes difficult, path forward.
You control Hugo, a young hero, navigating through a series of interconnected screens. Your main goal is to rescue your family from an evil witch, which involves exploring forests, caves, and castles. You use a sword for close combat and a bow for hitting distant enemies or switches, and you collect keys to unlock new areas. The game moves at a deliberate pace, screen by screen, and the difficulty can be punishing, demanding precise jumps and careful enemy timing. It feels like a focused, sometimes grueling, test of your patience and skill.
