About Hoops
Hoops came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1988, published by Jaleco. It was part of that wave of straightforward sports games on the NES, the kind you could pick up and play without a manual. It didn't try to be a simulation; it was just a video game about basketball, made for quick sessions on the couch.
You control one of two basketball players on a single screen court. The main objective is to outscore your opponent by getting the ball through the hoop. Your player can dribble, pass, and shoot; you have to time your jumps for rebounds and blocks. The game moves at a fast pace, and the computer opponent can feel relentless, making every possession count. It feels like a quick, physical back-and-forth where a single steal can change the game.
