So Hook on NES is basically that Robin Williams movie where he plays a grown-up Peter Pan who forgot he could fly—except now you're the one swinging a sword at pirates. You start off in London, but before long, you're back in Neverland, jumping across floating barrels and slashing through Hook's goons with this weirdly satisfying little sword swipe.
The levels are all over the place—jungles, pirate ships, even some trippy dream sequences—and you’ll pick up fairy dust and other junk to help you out. The controls take a second to get used to (why does jumping feel so floaty?), but once you get the hang of it, bouncing off enemies’ heads becomes weirdly fun. And yeah, obviously, you’ll fight Hook at the end, but good luck getting there without getting wrecked by a few too many random mermaids first.
It’s not the deepest NES game, but if you’re into movie tie-ins or just want to relive that ‘90s nostalgia, it’s got charm. Just don’t expect it to be easy.
