About Hook
I first played Hook on the Game Boy back in 1992, a title developed by Sculptured Software. It was one of many games trying to capture the feel of a big movie license on the small screen, a common sight in that era of portable gaming. You take on the role of Peter Pan, but this isn't just a simple retelling; it's an action platformer that has you navigating the world of Neverland from the start.
You control Peter, flying and sword fighting through a series of interconnected levels. Your main goal is to rescue the Lost Boys and ultimately confront Captain Hook. The game uses a screen by screen exploration structure; each new screen loads as you move, creating a methodical pace. You use your sword to deflect enemy projectiles back at them, a key mechanic that requires good timing. You also collect items to restore health and open up new paths. The difficulty can be sharp, with some enemy placements demanding quick reflexes. It feels like a deliberate test of your platforming and combat skills from beginning to end.
