About Hook (japan)
I first played Hook on the Game Boy back in 1992, a release from Sofel. It was one of many licensed titles on the system, an adaptation of the Robin Williams film that tried to capture its adventure on the small screen. During that era, you expected these kinds of games to be simple side-scrollers, but Hook aimed for something a little different.
You control Peter Pan, navigating through locations like Neverland and Captain Hook's ship. The main goal is to rescue the children, John and Michael, from Hook's clutches. The game is structured screen by screen; you explore these areas, talk to characters like the Lost Boys to get hints, and collect specific items to solve environmental puzzles. Combat is straightforward, using your sword against pirates and other enemies you encounter. The pacing can feel deliberate, as you often need to backtrack or figure out which object to use where, and the difficulty comes from remembering locations and managing your limited health. Playing it feels like a quiet, methodical puzzle box set to a familiar story.
