About Hook (japan)
I first came across Hook on the NES back in 1992, a game published by Sofel. It was one of many licensed titles from that era, based on the Robin Williams movie, and it arrived late in the console's life. You play as Peter Banning, who becomes Peter Pan again to rescue his children from Captain Hook.
You control Peter through side scrolling levels, moving screen by screen across Neverland locations like the forest and the pirate ship. Your main goal is to find your kids, which involves platforming, fighting pirates with your sword, and collecting items. A couple of the key mechanics are using a limited supply of fairy dust for a brief flight to reach high places and searching for specific items to open up new paths. The game moves at a deliberate pace, and the difficulty can be unforgiving, with precise jumps required and enemies that respawn quickly. Playing it feels like a methodical trek through a colorful but hazardous world.
