Honoo no Toukyuuji - Dodge Danpei is one of those weird little Game Boy sports games that somehow works. It’s based on an old anime about dodgeball, but don’t expect anything realistic—this is more like dodgeball with fireballs and ridiculous special moves. You pick a team, each with their own overpowered throws, and then just start hurling balls at each other’s faces.
The controls are simple (just run and throw), but timing those super shots takes practice. Some characters have these absurd curveballs that feel impossible to dodge at first, but once you get the rhythm, it’s oddly satisfying to nail someone from across the court. The pixel art’s got that classic early-90s charm, and the announcer voice clips (yes, on the Game Boy) are hilariously over-the-top.
It’s definitely janky by modern standards, but if you’re into retro sports games with a side of anime nonsense, this one’s a fun time. Just don’t expect deep strategy—it’s all about the chaos.
