Honmei Boy is one of those weird little Game Boy gems that never left Japan—which is a shame because it's got this quirky charm to it. You play as this kid who's basically trying to win over his crush by... collecting random stuff? It sounds simple, but there's something oddly satisfying about the way items pop up and how you have to strategize which ones to grab first.

The pixel art is super cute, with these exaggerated expressions when you mess up or score big. And the music? Surprisingly catchy for a Game Boy title. I remember getting stuck for a while on one of the later stages because the timing gets brutal, but in that way where you keep telling yourself "one more try."

Definitely worth a look if you're into retro dating sims or just want something different from the usual platformers.
