Holy Magic Century (G) on the N64 is one of those RPGs that flew under the radar but totally deserves more love. You start off as this young mage-in-training, and right away, the spell system hooks you—instead of just picking attacks from a menu, you actually draw runes to cast magic. Mess up the symbol, and your fireball might fizzle into a sad puff of smoke.
The world feels surprisingly alive for an N64 game, with little villages full of gossipy NPCs and hidden side quests. Combat’s a mix of real-time and turn-based, which keeps you on your toes—no mindless button mashing here. And yeah, the story’s got that classic "destiny and ancient evils" vibe, but the writing’s charming enough that you don’t mind.
It’s janky in places (hello, N64 camera angles), but if you’re into retro RPGs with personality, this one’s a gem. Just don’t blame me when you spend an hour trying to perfect your lightning spell doodles.
