Holy Magic Century (or "Quest 64" if you're from the US) is one of those weird, rough-around-the-edges N64 RPGs that somehow sticks with you. You play as a young mage named Eletale, wandering a surprisingly open world where you gather elemental spirits to power up your magic. The combat's all real-time—no turn-based stuff here—so you're dodging attacks while charging spells, which feels way more active than most RPGs at the time.
The magic system's the real star. You start with basic wind spells (great for knocking enemies off cliffs, by the way), but as you collect spirits, you can mix earth, fire, and water into your attacks. I remember grinding near the starting area just to see how ridiculous my fire tornado could get. The story's pretty barebones—typical "save your dad, save the world" stuff—but there's something charming about how janky the NPCs look and how empty some areas feel. Like an RPG that got lost on its way to the PlayStation.
It's definitely not the deepest or prettiest game on the N64, but if you're into experimental '90s RPGs, this one's got a weird little cult appeal. Just don't expect Final Fantasy levels of polish.
