About Hokuto No Ken 3
Hokuto no Ken 3 came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1989, developed and published by Toei Animation. It was part of that wave of late 80s NES games that tried to do more with the hardware, moving the Fist of the North Star series into a full role-playing format.
You control Kenshiro, often joined by Bat and Lin, traveling across a post apocalyptic map from town to town. Your main goal is to follow the manga's storyline, advancing through the narrative by fighting gangs and rival martial artists. The game uses a turn based battle system where you select Hokuto Shinken techniques from a menu, and exploration happens screen by screen, with random enemy encounters interrupting your travel. It is a difficult game; your health depletes quickly from battles and environmental damage, requiring careful management of your limited healing items. Playing it feels like a constant, gritty struggle for survival in a broken world.
