I first played Hokuto no Ken: Seizetsu Juuban Shoubu on my Game Boy back in 1990. It was a Japanese release from Toei Animation, based on the Fist of the North Star series. At the time, portable games were simple, and this one fit right in with its straightforward brawler style.

You control Kenshiro, the main character, moving from left to right across single-screen stages. Your goal is to defeat all the enemies in each area before progressing to the next. The combat relies on close-range punches and kicks, with a special meter that lets you unleash a powerful Hokuto Shinken attack. The game is quite difficult; enemies swarm you quickly, and the controls can feel stiff. Finishing a stage gives you a brief, satisfying moment before the next wave begins. Playing it feels like a constant, demanding fight for survival.
