Hit The Ice On GB is one of those classic Game Boy sports games that somehow makes hockey feel both chaotic and satisfying. You pick your team—I always went for the red guys—and then it’s straight into fast, scrappy matches where checking opponents into the boards is just as fun as scoring. The controls are simple (d-pad and two buttons), but there’s a weird rhythm to passing and shooting that takes a minute to get right.
It’s not deep, but that’s kind of the charm. Matches are quick, the pixelated players slide around like they’re on actual ice, and the buzzer sound when you score is weirdly satisfying. If you’ve got 10 minutes to kill and miss that old-school arcade hockey vibe, this one’s a solid pick. Just don’t expect NHL-level strategy.
